Star Trek sounds and music

Beitrag von UesugiKenshin »

For many decades, the kind folks at Trekcore have documented audio clips and music from not only all the Star Trek series and films, but 20+ games. Some of these can be and have been used within mods, but often cannot be openly distributed in a commercial game.

For example, there is a genuine limit on file sizes within BotE but as a player one can find more than a gigabyte of music to play in various formats. Many of these are quite good to play in the background while playing the game. Each are in relatively small sizes.

Tyrannicus made several 50+ minute soundtrack suites dedicated to races in Star Trek. You could listen to those playing in the background. They are quite good. You may get into memory issues as the mp3 will end up very large versus using an mp3 player that is shuffling Trekcore individualnsongs from soundtracks.

For years modders have used Incompetech mp3 files to have music for their mods. Go listen to some samples. Some horror or mystery or electronic may be appropriate for future BotE mods.

Let's say you made a major race like the xenomorphs from the Aliens film franchise. You would have to call them something else entirely, create ships and troops and develop all the art and units stats and weaponry. There should be no way to relate the two so there are not any copyright claims.

But you could use royalty free music like "Welcome to Horrorland" or "Unseen Horrors" both are very unnerving. Space strategy games should include some idea of horror as some extraterrestrials would be horrific as their ethos would in no way be like humans.

"Day of Chaos" has been used by many youtube creators.

The film Solaris was originally a USSR film project and based upon Polish visionary science fiction writer Stanislaw Lem.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanisław_Lem
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_(novel)

In that film, the planet is sentient and is communicating with various humans who go there to study it. It probes their minds and generates carbon copy humans who died tragically in that human's life, and thus severely emotionally taxes their ability to cope.

A well made but poorly received film was made in 2002.

Cliff Martinez made a superb soundtrack of electronic music which goes along well with playing BotE.

Solaris is a sentient planet and trying to use the most poignant experiences to provoke an emotional affinity in human beings, but unlike say the Contact film scene, it's poorly received and provokes fear and mistrust and ultimately violence in nearly all.

Whereas in the film Contact, that communication is logical and poignant and works.

Carl Orff's O Fortuna is frequently used as a compelling stirring score for battle scenes. Look at the public domain lyrics. Now you see why.

Excalibur uses this music to great effect as Mordred's army is outflanked under foggy conditions and in partial darkness by the inferior numbers of an almost beaten Camelot.

Drums are consistent across all cultures as battle music to raise the morale of the veterans. Here is some Taiko drumming. That symbol on the three great drums is the Japanese samurai warrior god Hachiman.

And another. Note the choreography combines the martial traditions of Budo and Bushido coupled with grace, power, discipline, and resolve.
